A win-win approach, better for us and better for our cows
“For us, improving the health of our dairy cows is the largest priority and challenge of our farming business. This is our very personal choice, but the Caring Dairy project really helps us to learn what measures to take while considering the impact of and on the other sustainability areas. After the ‘mutual coaching’ sessions in groups of four, where we scored the conditions of our cows, we came to the conclusion that we had to roughen our floor and enlarge our cow cubicles. Many of our cows had skin lesions all at the same place at their spine because the cubicle railings were too low we found out. Our cows simply have gotten bigger over the past 7 years. Caring Dairy helps us to recognise these things you often don’t see anymore on your own farm, helps us to break through this farm blindness.”
